I have a 2011 CTS wagon with a 3.0 engine. As I drive along, maybe a slight grade, all of a sudden the temp gauge slams to the max and all the bells and whistles go off. I stop, let the car sit for one or two minutes, turn on the key and the temp needle slams back to normal. I then continue on and come to a steep hill. The car climbs the hill just fine and doesn't heat up. I then continue along a slight upward grade and the temp needle flies to the top again. I wait for the gauge to go back to normal and maybe drive up my driveway which is 15 Degrees, 250 ft. long, and it doesn't heat up.
I first thought it was the sending unit so I changed it with a Delco sensor. No change. I then flushed the radiator and changed the radiator hoses thinking one might be collapsing. No help.
I had the water pump changed about 6 months ago while changing the timing chains.
When this happens, the engine is not hot.
Got any ideas as to what it might be?
